Earlier this evening the news broke that former Bantamweight champion Holly Holm will return to the scene of the greatest victory in her UFC career, Melbourne Australia where she became a UFC champion when she knocked out Ronda Rousey.
Holm (12-5) is coming off a devastating loss to the reigning Bantamweight and Featherweight champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 239 in June was eager to get back to work as soon as possible.
Pennington (10-7) is making the trek to the land down under to look for redemption as she tries to avenge a loss to Holm at UFC 184 from February of 2015.
It would seem as if both of these fighters may not be in any title conversation in the near future, however, that doesn’t mean that this fight should be paid any less attention. Both of these fighters can scrap, and while Holm may have a win against Pennington, it was of the split decision variety which lets us know that the rematch should be another good fight for us to enjoy. The number 3 ranked Holm vs the number 6 ranked Pennington should answer some questions about who may be on the upswing and who may be on their way to gatekeeper status.
UFC 243 is scheduled to take place October 5th in Melbourne Australia and will be headlined by a Middleweight title unification bout between Interim Champion Israel Adesanya and reigning Champion Robert Whittaker.
