Florida’s own Island Fights veteran, Dana White Contender Series alum and UFC fighter Hannah Goldy, who was one of the most highly touted prospects in 2019 finally gets her 2nd fight in the octagon booked.
Goldy (5-1) will be taking on Thailand’s Loma Lookboonmee (4-1) in a straweight clash in New Zealand at #UFCAuckland February 23rd.
Both of these ladies are looking to make a splash in the strawweight division in 2020.
Lookboonmee made her successful Octagon debut last October at UFC Fight Night 162 against Aleksandra Albu taking home a split decision win in a close fight and will be looking to keep her forward momentum going as she takes on Goldy. While she is primarily a striker she has shown great patience in her fights and the willingness to go the distance to take home a victory as 3 of her 4 wins have been by decision.
Oddly enough Goldy, who is also known as a striker that likes to work toward the finish by fighting smart and waiting for her moment to unleash her hands at just the right time by putting pressure on her opponent constantly will gladly go the distance as 4 of her 5 career wins have also come via decision.
Goldy made her Octagon debut against Miranda Granger at UFC on ESPN 5 last August in New Jersey. It was a good fight and unfortunately for Goldy, she came up short on the judge’s scorecards losing a decision to Granger and will be looking to earn her 1st victory inside the octagon when she heads across the pond to New Zealand at the end of February.
I asked Goldy her thoughts on this fight and she gave me this statement to share: “I’ve got the best team behind me. I’ve got tunnel vision, and there’s only one thing on my mind. 2020 is gonna be a good year.”
Stylistically speaking this matchup is somewhat of a mirror for both fighters. As mentioned above both of these women like to strike, but we have to remember that both of these women possess legitimate ground skills that they can implement at any time during the fight if the opportunity presents itself.
The strawweight division of the UFC since being implemented has truly been one of the better divisions across the promotion. Continually bringing in new talent and presenting exciting fights and these 2 ladies fit the criteria and will both be around for quite some time in the division as it continues to evolve.
UFC Auckland, which takes place on February 23rd is headlined by a main event featuring New Zealand’s own Dan “The Hangman” Hooker versus Paul “The Irish Dragon” Felder in a lightweight bout where the winner could catapult themself into possible title contention and will be available to view across the ESPN family of networks.
