A featherweight bout that should be full of fireworks has been booked for February 29th at UFC Norfolk. Giga Chikadze (8-2) vs. Mike “Beastboy” Davis (8-2).
These 2 young, talented and up-and-coming fighters will face off in the octagon to try to take each other out and move up the rankings.
Both of these gentlemen are coming off victories inside the octagon.
Chikadze made his octagon debut last year at UFC Fight Night 160 against the tough and talented Brandon Davis. Taking home a split decision victory, Chikadze showed that he is ready and that he belonged inside the octagon fighting the best fighters in the world.
Mike Davis made 2 appearances inside the octagon last year, his 1st year with the UFC. Both fights were short notice and at lightweight which is a full division or up from where he normally fights.
In his 1st outing, he took on one of the toughest guys in the UFC and certainly one of the most experienced and deadly Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in Gilbert Burns. Davis came up short in that one but made his impact felt as he unleashed some of his brutal striking which forced Burns to go to his BJJ to secure the victory because he didn’t like what Davis was dishing out on the feet.
When Davis returned to the octagon in October, again on very short notice, he stepped in against lightweight Thomas “The Young Lion” Gifford. On this night, Davis let the world know that he is to be taken very seriously. Unleashing a brutal striking attack on Gifford for nearly 3 full rounds before securing the KO win with 15 seconds left in the bout.
Both of these fighters like to stand and trade in the middle of the octagon. Also, both of these young men can work anywhere the fight goes which really makes this an interesting match up for both men as their striking abilities may cancel each other out and this fight could end up on the ground where Davis would more than likely have the physical strength advantage in his corner, as their technical work on the ground is fairly even.
Davis has secured 7 of his 8 victories by way of KO/TKO. Chikadze has earned 5 of his 8 wins in the same fashion.
