The long-awaited Octagon debut of Brok Weaver is finally official as Weaver announced via his social media platforms earlier this afternoon. We knew he was going to be on the Rio Rancho card, just didn’t know against who until today.
Brok “Chata Tuska” Weaver vs. Rodrigo “Kazula” Vargas Saturday, February 15th Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Vargas (10-3) will be making his 2nd appearance in the Octagon, as he debuted last year against Alex da Silva Coelho and went home on the wrong end of a unanimous decision, and is looking to rebound against Weaver. With 9 finishes ( 6KO/TKO 3 Subs) in his 10 victories “Kazula” will certainly be looking for the finish when he faces Weaver.
Weaver (14-4) is a grinder. He likes to take his opponents deep into a fight and outwork them. He can, however, finish a fight with the best of them. He has solid striking and submissions in his arsenal and will unleash them if the opportunity presents itself. Weaver has a high fight I.Q. and doesn’t play into the hands of his opponents, he dictates the fight against whoever is standing across the cage from him, even if it’s his best friend Tyler Hill whom Weaver had to fight to get his shot on the Contender Series on the way to his UFC contract.
Both Vargas and Weaver are exciting in their own way and this is a very interesting stylistic match-up for both fighters who are looking to announce their arrival in a big way on February 15th in New Mexico.
UFC on ESPN+ 25 takes place Saturday night February 15th, 2020 from the Santa ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico and will be available for viewing exclusively on ESPN+.
