We’ve all heard the question that has become internet lore, who would win in a fight between a bear and a gorilla? While the world seems divided with who would win that fight, a question we might actually be able to get the answer to is who would win a fight between bigfoot and a gorilla?
Thanks to David Feldman and our friends at Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, we may have the answer to that question sooner rather than later.
Earlier today BKFC announced they have signed former UFC heavyweight title challenger, and one of the biggest human beings to ever step foot in the octagon Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva to a contract with the promotion. Details about the contract have not been released.
This is the only statement from the promotion, which can be found on their website: “We are happy to announce the signing of ‘Bigfoot’ Silva to our roster,” said BKFC President David Feldman. “He has fought and beat some of the best in the world. We have some intriguing matchups that we are talking about with him now. I really expect great fighters from Antonio.”
Last night on the Cage Side with Christopher James show I interviewed new BKFC and Police Gazette heavyweight champion Chase Sherman. We discussed who might be next and he had mentioned that the promotion and his team had been in discussions about him facing a former UFC title challenger, but he could not divulge any more than that.
Well, the cat is out of the bag and you do not have to be a rocket scientist to do the math for this equation. Sherman said they wanted him to face a former UFC title contender, today they signed Bigfoot. Pretty simple math 1 + 1equals heavyweight title fight.
Silva is 19-12 as a mixed martial artist with 15 of those wins coming by way of KO/TKO, hasn’t fought since 2017. His body has had a little over 2 years to recover from nagging injuries that all fighters deal with. With his massive frame and the power that goes along with it, he will certainly be dangerous inside the bare-knuckle fighting championship ring.
Sherman (14-6 MMA, 1-0-1 BK) the former UFC heavyweight is the new BKFC heavyweight champion after defeating former champion Arnold Adams at BKFC7 via a one-sided unanimous decision last week in Biloxi Mississippi. The “Vanilla Gorilla” is riding a 3 fight MMA winning streak and was tabbed to fight on Dana White’s Contender Series this summer to get back in the UFC, however, his training at the Gulfport Fire Academy had already begun, and Sherman was committed to becoming a firefighter. Sherman graduated this past Monday and is now a firefighter full time. Even with his new career in front of him, Sherman stated he has every intention of keeping the title around his waist and having it stay home in Mississippi where it hasn’t been in 137 years. He is ready to defend his belts against all comers.
BKFC 8 is the next scheduled event for the promotion and it takes place October 19th in Tampa Florida. After their initial show here in Tampa in June and the success that came with it, I think Tampa would be a perfect place for them to book this heavyweight title fight to take place, although no date or location has been announced as of this article being published.
